The pipe as a Christmas musical instrument is popularly used by a number of musical bands and choirs who perform at various concerts and other Christmas gatherings. The list of popular pipes includes reed pipe, hornpipe, flageolet, or a tabor pipe. During the medieval period the pipe and tabor was a common combination all over Europe and till date remains popular in some parts of Europe and the America. There are many variations of the tabor pipe like the French galoubet, the Basque txistu, Picco Pipe, the Aragonese chiflo or the Andalusian pito rociero. Most of the pipes are traditionally made of bone, cane and wood. Nowadays pipes are also being made of metal as well as plastic. There are many kinds of pipes such as the tabor pipes which are no longer in use. The flageolet had developed in France and was used as orchestral instruments till the 19th century.
